When the fact that we are 1,900 years closer to the times John foresaw and all indications are that by most accounts we are very near the beginning of the end is considered, it is untenable to conclude Babylon an invisible, unidentifiable entity. In other words, to think both that the end times are near AND that uncertainty about Babylon's identity is irrational. The reason is obvious in the text of Revelation 17-18, where this great harlot is plainly described as the political, economic, and spiritual epicenter of the world order at that time. That alone makes it certain that 'Babylon' -- an historical city, nation, and empire, but not a religion -- is a nation (not to be confused with a government), and the manner of its sudden, fiery demise makes it clear that it has a specific geographic domain, too, though not specifically where that would be...."
