He flexed lots of muscle in his movie roles, and continues to do so in his role as California's governor, and now Arnold Schwarzenegger is ready to rumble in court with a greeting card company he alleges is ripping him off, a 'Celebrity Justice' exclusive reports.
CJ reveals that according to papers filed in Los Angeles by Schwarzenegger's attorney, Marty Singer, the tenacious, self-made body-builder turned actor/superstar and California politician, is ready to take on Recycled Paper Greetings, Inc. and DCI Studios for illegally using an image of himself and his wife, Maria Shriver. The Hollywood heavyweight says that only he has control over the Schwarzenegger image.
'CJ' asked entertainment attorney Aaron Moss if Arnold has a case. Moss, who represented actor Tom Skerritt when his photo was used in an ad for an erectile dysfunction treatment, told us Governor Arnold is entitled to same rights as Actor Arnold. 'This seems like a clear cut violation,' Moss observed. 'Becoming governor doesn't mean you give up the right of publicity.'
Arnold's image is the Fort Knox of Hollywood, and he is known to doggedly protect it. He has filed similar suits against Frye's Electronics, an Ohio auto dealer, and the maker of an Arnold Bobble-head doll.
While some may argue Schwarzenegger is a fair target for political parody, Moss maintained the greeting card is far from that. 'This is not 'Saturday Night Live' parodying the governor. It's not a comic strip that's making fun of him,' Moss noted. 'It's simply using his picture to sell cards.'"
